Description:
The rose that is generally used for oil production is a hybrid between R. centifolia and R. gallica. It grows to 8ft 2.5m and produces rosy-purple flowers.
Actions:
Antidepressant, antiphlogistic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, aphrodisiac, astringent, bactericidal, choleretic, cictrizant, depurative, hemostatic, hepatic, laxative, appetite regulator, sedative, stomachic, tonic.
Extraction:
The oil or otto is extracted by water or steam distillation from the fresh petals. Concrete and absolute are produced by solvent extraction from the fresh petals.
Characteristics:
The oil is pale yellow, while the absolute id red-orange. Blends well with jasmine, orange flower, geranium, bergamot, lavender, clary sage, sandalwood, patchouli, benzoin, chamomile, clove and palmarosa.
